Spring Cleaning
March 2026
Spring Cleaning
March is an important transition month between winter and spring. Upcoming celebrations of Passover and Easter signify themes of freedom and renewal. It’s an excellent time to clean out all the clutter in your life; not just physical clutter but also emotional and mental clutter. A way to do this is to use some of the skills that I’ve been teaching in my Small Business Success Class. First envision what you want your house, yard and mind to look like during your Passover and Easter family gatherings. It helps to recall the happiest and most meaningful Easters or Passovers that you have ever had.
What will your Spring look like?
Next, write down all of the tasks that need to be done before April 1st. Make a spreadsheet and break these tasks down to weekly benchmarks. For instance, you could declutter 2 rooms a week or organize 1 or 2 file cabinets a week. What we do in the class is create a Single Daily Action(SDA) to work on a project. You may need 3 different SDAs to cover different areas such as your house, yard and mindset. Plan to do 10 to 20 minutes a day on each project and write in your calendar when you will do them. Set an alarm on your phone if necessary. Plan rewards for yourself at the end of each week, it could be a festive Spring wreath, a pot of daffodils or a drive in the country. The very final reward at the end of the month should be something big like new patio furniture or a better grill.
What do you want to give yourself for a reward?
It is wise to break tasks down into weeks and then days. I don’t know about you but sometimes I have all of the good intentions in the world, procrastinate and wind up 3 days before the holiday with a dirty house, leaves in the yard and still needing to go the the store! Don’t let this happen to you. If you are overwhelmed don’t hesitate to ask for help. You won’t have the right mindset if you end up in a crunch. This time of the year most business owners are struggling with paperwork, taxes, scheduling and employees. What I love about BNI (Business Network International), my business network is that I have a whole team of experts to get you out of any mess that you are in.
What’s your worst overwhelm?
Call Amanda Torbet (417-401-1937) our bookkeeper right this minute. if you are behind with your taxes, billing or other back office jobs. Amy Sutherlin (314- 302-6992) owner of Clean Sweep will clean my house so I can focus on what really matters (my faith, family and friends). Don’t try to tackle the yard yourself, call Mitchell Roberts (417-824-2775) with No Mow Worries. Mitchell gets your property in shape 4 times faster than you trying to do it yourself. To put the icing on the cake call Cory Mauldin (417-987-6683) with Mauldin Construction and Concrete. Cory wants to power wash, repair and seal your patio, sidewalk and driveway so that you have time to create the memories that you want for your family this spring.
Who will you call?
Now that you’ve set the stage for your best celebration ever, don’t forget your mindset. Who do you need to be to host an unforgettable Easter or Passover? What kind of thoughts should you have? Ask yourself how you want to be with other people. Lent is a time for cleansing, purification and repentance. For me that requires reading Bible verses, praying and listening to gospel music. I also like to dwell on my happiest Easter memories. I wish I could make everyone in the world feel as safe, carefree and hopeful as I felt going to church with my father. Make the holiday have special meaning for a friend or family member. When my husband made his First Communion and Confirmation on Easter, we had a leg of lamb dinner Saturday with his 2 Confirmation sponsors and their wives. On Sunday we had a delicious brunch with coffee on the deck for more relatives and church friends.
What bad thoughts do you wish you never thought again?
Use the month of March as a time to clean and prepare. Discard not only unnecessary items but also rid yourself of any dysfunctional, crippling or toxic beliefs and ideas. Develop a timeline and specific actions to make sure you arrive at April 1st happy and organized. Reach out and make calls to get help before it’s a crisis. You want to be an inspiration, not cranky and frazzled. Don’t try to do it all yourself especially if you are running a business. Make the necessary space to prepare yourself emotionally and spiritually. Stay focused on giving yourself and your loved ones the best Passover and Easter. Plan little rewards along the way and a big reward or surprise for the holiday dinner.
Who should you bless with the best holiday ever?
