Dallas County R-1 School District Announces Care to Learn Chapter in the District
Dallas County R-1 School District is excited to announce that it has started a Care to Learn Chapter in our district! Care to Learn Dallas County is now one of 45+ school districts across the state of Missouri meeting student needs with this innovative model since 2008.
The mission of the Care to Learn Dallas County Chapter is to provide immediate funding to meet students’ emergent health, hunger, and hygiene needs so they can be successful in school. We do this by empowering our school staff to identify and respond to student needs efficiently and discreetly, while continuing to work with valued community members.
Some key points to note:
● Care to Learn is a gap filler. Our Care to Learn Chapter comes alongside existing programs in the community to ensure that our students have ALL their basic needs met. Care to Learn does not duplicate services currently offered in the community.
● We keep it local. Funds raised by the Dallas County Chapter will be used to meet the needs of Dallas County students. This is how our community helps educators help local students in need.
● There’s no red tape. There are no qualifiers for a student to receive Care to Learn support, ensuring that no student slips through the cracks.
If a student’s need involves HEALTH, HUNGER, or HYGIENE, Care to Learn can help. What needs are included under that umbrella, you ask? Here are a few:
● HEALTH: medical and dental health care; vision care and glasses; transportation to/from medical appointments; prescriptions; assistive devices; pest control; and more.
● HUNGER: school-site food pantries; emergency snacks at school; grocery vouchers, etc.
● HYGIENE: personal hygiene items; clothing; shoes; coats and jackets; haircuts, etc.
